IMF Executive Board Meeting Excludes Pakistan from Agenda Discussions

PAKISTAN

The IMF Executive Board has scheduled meetings until December 14, but Pakistan is not on its agenda. This is so because the first review under the $3 billion stand-by arrangements (SBA) is still pending.

The IMF program is currently giving $3 billion to Pakistan till the end of April 2024 with about $1.8 billion yet to be disbursed. The first portion of the $1.2 billion was unveiled in July.

On 15 November, an agreement regarding the first review of SBA for Pakistan was achieved by the IMF staff and Pakistani authorities. Nonetheless, it requires an enduring approval from the IMF’s Executive Board. Approval of that amount of money will earn Pakistan about $700 million.

There is the IMF Executive Board Calendar showing that meetings have been planned for December 4, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13 and 14, 2023. However, Pakistan is not on the agenda of these meetings.
