Sarfaraz Bugti Formally Joined the PPP

PAKISTAN

Last week, former caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti formally joined the PPP. The elections come on February 8th. Bugti submitted his resignation on personal grounds and announced he would run in the elections. At a workers’ convention in Turbat, Bugti joined the PPP, with party leader Asif Ali Zardari welcoming him.

Expressing gratitude, Bugti cites his historical link with the PPP. His father was affiliated to the party in the past. He asked Zardari to put special effort into improving communications, road networks and health facilities all over Balochistan, particularly in Turbat.

During his speech, Bugti praised Zardari for fulfilling promises and emphasized the PPP’s commitment to building a progressive Balochistan. He denounced the politics of division and emphasized the need for solidarity. Bugti asserted that Turbat, perceived as a stronghold of nationalist politics, would see PPP forming the next government in Balochistan.

Bugti, who was previously associated with the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and served as interior minister for Balochistan, pointed to PPP ‘role in pushing back the anti-Pakistan narrative. His change of sides is by no means an isolated case amidst the election heat.
