Wolves Defeat Chelsea 2-1

SPORTS

Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a 2-1 win over Chelsea on Christmas Eve, extending their impressive home form in the Premier League. Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty scored crucial second-half goals, while Christopher Nkunku netted a consolation for Chelsea.

After a goalless first half, Lemina’s header from a Pablo Sarabia corner put Wolves in the lead. Doherty sealed the win in added time, taking advantage of Benoit Badiashile’s defensive lapse. Despite Nkunku’s goal for Chelsea, the London side suffered their eighth league defeat of the season and fourth consecutive away loss.

Wolves, unbeaten at home since September, moved up to 11th place with 22 points, level with 10th-placed Chelsea but trailing on goal difference.

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, expressed disappointment, stating, “We are not clinical enough. We created chances and had the possession. We need to learn from these games. We are in a position Chelsea should not be in.”

Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling missed a crucial chance in the first half, failing to capitalize on a three-on-one opportunity. Lemina and Doherty’s goals secured Wolves’ victory, emphasizing their strong performance against top-six teams.
