Broncos Release CB Kareem Jackson Over Suspensions

SPORTS

The Denver Broncos made a significant roster move on Monday by releasing veteran cornerback Kareem Jackson. This decision comes in the wake of Jackson serving two suspensions, totaling six games, during the current NFL season for hits deemed unnecessary roughness.

Jackson’s second suspension recently concluded, and the Broncos opted not to activate him for their Sunday night matchup, resulting in a 26-23 loss to the New England Patriots. If Jackson clears waivers, there’s a possibility that he may be signed to the Broncos’ practice squad.

The cornerback faced a two-game suspension for a hit to the head of Green Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave on October 22. Subsequently, he received a four-game suspension one day after delivering a high blow to Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs on November 19.

Throughout the season, Jackson accrued fines amounting to $89,670 for four illegal hits, and he suffered financial losses of over $838,000 in missed game checks.

At 35 years old, Jackson has contributed 51 tackles, two interceptions, and three passes defensed in eight games, all of which he started, this season. This marks his 14th season in the NFL, with the last five spent with the Denver Broncos after a nine-season stint with the Houston Texans. Over his career, Jackson has amassed 952 tackles, 22 interceptions (three returned for touchdowns), and seven fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a score.
