The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) filed four petitions with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday, taking a major judicial action. In preparation for the upcoming elections on February 8, the party requested fair circumstances for political operations, including as the ability to hold public demonstrations, political meetings, and important meetings with imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan.

The PTI highlighted the supposed lack of equal opportunities and underlined the significance of conventions, open forums, protests, and other political gatherings as essential conditions for the fulfilment of constitutionally guaranteed political rights. One of the petitions claims that Islamabad officials have allegedly denied permits for workers’ conventions, open forums, and even protests, raising questions about the impartiality of the election process.

Imran Khan personally petitioned the court in a separate case, pleading for permission to meet with important party figures such as Asad Qaiser, Junaid Akbar Khan, senators Aurangzeb Khan and Dost Mohammad Khan, and Ishtiaq Meherban. The petition asks the court to direct the superintendent of Adiala Jail to protect privacy during these consultations, as these talks are essential for planning ahead of the elections.

Concurrently, the Special Court (Official Secrets Act) saw events transpire, granting Imran Khan authorization to open two bank accounts through biometric verification. The superintendent of Adiala Jail was instructed by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain to arrange a meeting between Mr. Khan and bank representatives. The former premier’s legal representative told the court that in order for him to run in the forthcoming elections from Mianwali and Lahore, he would need to register new bank accounts and activate dormant ones.

The PTI’s legal actions and Imran Khan’s appeals highlight the party’s dedication to guaranteeing equitable election circumstances and the significance of unimpeded party member communication during the pivotal pre-election phase. All eyes are on the Islamabad High Court as the legal procedures progress in anticipation of verdicts that could have a big impact on the political climate before the elections on February 8.
