Siraj’s 6-15 Stuns South Africa in Second Test

SPORTS

Mohammed Siraj claimed a career-best 6-15, helping India bundle out hosts South Africa for a mere 55 runs within a session on day one of the second and final test at Newlands. Opting to bat after winning the toss, South Africa witnessed their lowest test total since 1932 as India’s seamers dominated the proceedings.

India, led by Siraj’s exceptional performance, swiftly surpassed South Africa’s total in just 9.4 overs, establishing the earliest first innings lead in men’s tests since 2001. Virat Kohli (20 not out) and KL Rahul (0 not out) guided India to 111 for four at tea, aiming to extend their advantage in the final session.

The Newlands pitch offered both movement and variable bounce, creating a challenging environment for the South African batsmen. Rabada and Burger provided some resistance with the ball, but India’s early dominance reflected in their impressive run chase.

The day belonged to Siraj, whose immaculate line outside off-stump and exceptional catching behind the stumps led to South Africa’s downfall. India’s seamers capitalized on the conditions, leaving the hosts struggling at 55 all out.

As the second test unfolds, India seeks to level the series after South Africa claimed victory in the first test in Pretoria by an innings and 32 runs.
