Maryam Nawaz Rejects Involvement in Retaliatory Politics Against PTI

PAKISTAN

Maryam Nawaz, the Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), refuted accusations of engaging in retaliatory politics against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during a rally in Khanewal. She challenged her accusers, questioning whether it was her party that had incited an attack on the state on May 9 or waved a cipher during a rally. She addressed allegations made by the former ruling party PTI’s leadership, denying claims of seeking revenge and demanding answers regarding various controversial actions.

Regarding the cipher incident, which involved a piece of paper waved by Imran Khan at a public rally ahead of a vote of confidence, Nawaz claimed it as ‘evidence’ of an “international conspiracy” to topple his government and later attributed it to the US.

Maryam Nawaz also dismissed concerns about the impact of economic hardships on the PML-N’s support, asserting that no other political party currently posed a significant challenge in the political arena. She emphasized her resilience, recounting personal hardships such as arrest, learning of her mother’s death in jail, and enduring years of imprisonment while maintaining her father’s legacy.

Acknowledging the unwavering support from the people, particularly in Khanewal, she credited their commitment for facilitating her father Nawaz Sharif’s return. Maryam emphasized the inevitability of political ups and downs but praised true leaders and political workers for their steadfastness, likening them to tigers on the front lines. She expressed gratitude to the party workers, commending their unwavering dedication in the face of adversities.
