South Waziristan: In a harrowing incident early Thursday morning, a group of heavily armed terrorists attacked a police post in Umar Raghzai, Sararogha tehsil, Upper South Waziristan, and abducted four police personnel.
The assault, carried out late Wednesday night, saw the assailants storming the post using small and heavy weapons. Police sources reported that the abducted officers; identified as Akbar, Jan Mohammad, Sultan, and Naseeb; were taken hostage and transported to an undisclosed location.
District Police Officer (DPO) Arshad Khan confirmed the incident, stating that a thorough investigation has been initiated. “Efforts are underway to locate the missing officers and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Following the attack, security forces have launched an extensive search operation across the region to trace the missing policemen and apprehend the attackers. However, the volatile terrain and growing security challenges in the area pose significant hurdles for the authorities.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns among local residents, who have witnessed a steady decline in security across the three Waziristan districts over the past year.
Community leaders and residents are calling for urgent measures to restore peace and protect law enforcement personnel. “The situation is worsening day by day, and we feel increasingly unsafe,” said a local elder on the condition of anonymity.
This latest attack underscores the escalating risks faced by law enforcement agencies in the region. Analysts stress the importance of strengthening collaboration between security forces and local communities to preempt such incidents in the future.
The kidnapping of four police officers highlights the urgent need for enhanced vigilance, better resource allocation for law enforcement, and a united effort to counter the growing threat of militancy in the region.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security forces during the ongoing operation. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the challenges in maintaining security in South Waziristan and the critical need for a comprehensive strategy to ensure long-term peace.
