Government Announces No-Bag Policy for Islamabad Students

PAKISTAN

The increasing weight of school bags has become a concern, especially for young learners who struggle to carry numerous books and supplies. To address this issue, the federal government is considering measures to reduce the burden on students. A new student-friendly policy, set to begin on August 1, will eliminate the need for school bags in primary schools in Islamabad.

Following the summer vacations, primary school students in Islamabad will no longer need to carry school bags. Instead, they will be provided with storage cabinets in their classrooms for textbooks and other materials. This initiative aims to alleviate the physical strain on young students and create a more comfortable learning environment.

The government’s new policy follows the previously successful ‘Lighter Bag Brighter Student’ initiative, which had garnered positive feedback from parents. Despite its initial success, the policy was discontinued over time. However, growing concerns from parents have prompted the government to reinstate a similar approach to promote a healthier educational experience for children.

To accommodate this change, the government is making arrangements in all primary schools to ensure adequate storage solutions are available. This move is expected to significantly reduce the physical burden on students, allowing them to focus more on their studies and less on the weight of their school bags.

Parents have been vocal in their support for policies that reduce the weight of school bags, emphasizing the need for a balanced and healthy approach to education. The new no bag policy is seen as a positive step towards achieving this goal, ensuring that young learners can enjoy a stress-free and conducive learning environment.
