Islamabad Court Reserves Decision on Khan’s Marriage Case

PAKISTAN

Islamabad High Court has decided on the admissibility of a petition regarding the alleged illegal marriage case involving PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

Justice Qudratullah of the Islamabad District and Session Courts conducted the hearing in connection with the illegal marriage case, where Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Maneka appeared before the court, accompanied by his lawyer Rizwan Abbasi.

Lawyer Rizwan Abbasi argued that two witnesses appeared in court, one who witnessed the event and the other who was informed about it. The judge responded, saying that you should look at the law. According to the law, two witnesses are necessary in such cases, and the conditions specified by the law must be met.

The lawyer said, “Consider my arguments. I am ready to present evidence. I am going to the Supreme Court. The evidence can be heard now. There was also a female employee in the house who can be included as a witness in the trial.”

Later during the hearing, the court took a short break, and after a while, the hearing resumed. The judge said, “Consider Khawar Maneka’s statement; there is nothing in the statement. According to the law, two witnesses are necessary with the complainant.”

During the proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer requested to issue notices to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The judge responded, “Khawar Maneka cannot be half the complainant and half the witness.” The lawyer argued that the marriage document is also available, and there are eyewitnesses and listeners.

Afterwards, the court reserved its decision on whether the case of the illegal marriage is admissible or not.
