The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is currently deliberating on the prospect of joining forces with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed independents to establish a coalition government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), while the Muttahida Wahdat Ul Muslimeen (MWM) has expressed openness to align with the PTI.
Following the PTI’s announcement of forming governments with MWM’s support in the Centre and Punjab, and with JI in K-P, Qaisar Sharif, the JI central information secretary, confirmed ongoing discussions between the parties post-elections.
Sharif disclosed that talks regarding a coalition government in K-P were initiated during a meeting in Islamabad, clarifying that JI had not yet furnished a definitive response. Meanwhile, MWM’s leader, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, enthusiastically endorsed the alliance with PTI, emphasizing unwavering support for Imran Khan since the events of “regime change” in April 2022.
Abbas reiterated the party’s commitment to national unity and progress, disavowing any ulterior motives or demands from PTI, while expressing discontent with laws he believed targeted PTI. He criticized the alleged promotion of certain political parties through biased agendas in a democratic setting, urging for a return to rationality.
Affirming loyalty to Imran Khan’s principles, Abbas emphasized MWM’s allegiance to the PTI leader, stating readiness to accept any decision made by him regarding the party.
