Nawaz Announces People’s Intention to Hold Inflation Culprits Accountable on February 8

PAKISTAN

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stated that on February 8, the people of Pakistan will permanently bury those responsible for undoing the progress achieved during the PML-N’s five-year rule from 2013 to 2018. Addressing a meeting of the party’s parliamentary committee, Sharif emphasized that those who hindered honest, hardworking, and patriotic Pakistanis would be held accountable for their actions. He referred to the upcoming decision on February 8 as the “largest JIT,” with the people of Pakistan serving as the largest bench, implying their judgment and verdict. Sharif focused on the economic hardships inflicted on the people and expressed hope for a prosperous, progressive, and economically stable Pakistan.

Sharif, who was recently cleared of two cases stemming from the Supreme Court’s Panama Papers verdict in 2017, shared his personal experiences of suffering and anguish, such as being denied the opportunity to speak to his wife on her deathbed and breaking the news of her death to his daughter while she was in jail. He also highlighted the “grand smear campaign” waged against him, including insults and threats from some members of the judiciary. Sharif acknowledged the fabrication of baseless cases against him, which were pursued despite being mocked by legal experts. However, he stated that he does not seek revenge for the injustices committed against him.

Sharif recalled Pakistan’s prosperity in 2017, with a strong currency, affordable petrol, and the status of a nuclear power. He lamented that the country had regressed since his removal as prime minister. Sharif expressed his hope that in the upcoming elections, the people of Pakistan would elect candidates who have proven their ability to serve the country and its citizens, ensuring progress and happiness.

Meanwhile, the PML-N has officially instructed its candidates nationwide to submit their nomination papers for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8. PML-N Secretary Information Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has granted formal permission to aspiring candidates seeking party tickets to submit their nomination papers for both national and provincial assembly constituencies.
