Highly praised for her roles in productions such as Parizaad and Pyari Mona, Pakistani actor Mashal Khan recently graced The Talk Talk Show, hosted by Hassan Choudary. Mashal explained, “When something sparks my interest, I completely immerse myself in it and then I just must do it well…I don’t feel at peace until I do. I think when you have few friends in your childhood then you have a lot more time to work on your talents. “The conversation dived into her diverse career and experiences within the entertainment industry. With a track record in shooting and a desire for writing and music, Mashal expressed her keenness for continuous learning and skill development. Mashal shared, “When something sparks my interest, I completely immerse myself in it, and then I just have to do it well. I don’t feel at peace until I do.” She attributed her array of hobbies to having a limited social circle during her childhood, stating, “I think when you have few friends in your childhood, then you have a lot more time to work on your talents.” Despite her multifaceted talents, Mashal lamented that the scripts she encounters often fail to capture the breadth of life in their characters. She criticized the prevalent portrayal of two-dimensional characters in Pakistani television, emphasizing, “This is my main contention with our dramas. We depict very two-dimensional people who only have love and domestic issues in their lives. The actor underscored her interest in sports and grieved the shortage of characters on screen casually engaging in sports as a hobby. She remarked, “When they (producers) have to show characters in sports, they show them as the number one tennis player or number one badminton player. There is no middle ground that this could be anyone’s normal hobby.”

Mashal recognized the need for different kinds of character portrayals and acknowledged that achieving this requires subtle changes, such as personalizing a kitchen space if the character is interested in cooking. She humorously noted her initial amusement at the often-exaggerated expressions of the antagonist “vamp” in front of the unaware “innocent” heroine. Discussing public insights, Mashal addressed the tendency to associate English-speaking individuals with being overly open-minded. She challenged this stereotype, emphasizing that every society has both good and bad individuals, regardless of language. Despite her dissatisfaction with the prevalent television scripts, Mashal expressed enthusiasm, emphasizing that she reads scripts carefully and attempts to find common ground with her characters. She emphasized the importance of connecting with any person by understanding the script and finding shared experiences. Reflecting on her career, Mashal discussed her journey toward achieving a work-life balance. She acknowledged the sacrifices made in the initial four years of her career but highlighted the conscious decision to slow down and prioritize personal time. Currently enjoying a more balanced life, Mashal remains focused on career development and various interests, with marriage and love life taking a backseat. As an advocate against bullying, Mashal shared her experiences combating critics and standing her ground. She emphasized her belief that people happy with themselves will not attempt to make others feel bad. Mashal concluded by characterizing belittling remarks as products of insecurity, describing such critics as “insecure, fed-up, and disappointed by life.”
